UMCB – the Welsh Students’ Union

Hello and welcome to UMCB’s pages! I’m Sharyn and I’m the President of Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymraeg Bangor (Bangor Welsh Students’ Union) for this academic year!

UMCB represents the interests of every Bangor University student who speaks Welsh, is learning Welsh, or who has an interest in the Welsh language or culture. This includes supporting and representing Welsh students who are having problems with their course or any other aspect of University life which is to do with the language, encouraging non-Welsh speaking students to learn the language, helping non-Welsh speakers who want to learn the language, creating opportunities for Welsh speakers and learners to socialise and live through the medium of Welsh, promoting Welsh culture to the University’s students and staff and strengthening the status of the language within the Union, the University and the local community.

Mae Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymraeg Bangor (UMCB) yn cynrychioli buddiannau pob myfyriwr Prifysgol Bangor sy’n siarad Cymraeg, yn dysgu Cymraeg, neu sydd â diddordeb yn yr iaith neu ddiwylliant Cymreig. Mae hyn yn cynnwys cefnogi a chynrychioli myfyrwyr Cymraeg sydd yn cael problemau gyda’u cwrs neu gydag unrhyw agwedd o fywyd Prifysgol sydd yn ymwneud ag iaith, annog myfyrwyr di-Gymraeg i ddysgu’r iaith, helpu myfyrwyr di-Gymraeg sydd eisiau dysgu’r iaith, creu cyfleoedd i siaradwyr a dysgwyr i gymdeithasu a byw trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg, hybu diwylliant Cymraeg i fyfyrwyr a staff y Brifysgol, a chryfhau statws yr iaith o fewn yr Undeb, y Brifysgol a’r gymuned leol.
