Give It Another Go Week: 17–25 April 2010

It’s coming! | Get ready! | Go somewhere new! | Try something different! | Have a fantastic experience!

Following the success of last semesters Give it a Go programme, Bangor Students’ Union is offering you another chance to have fun, get involved and try something new without having to commit yourself to anything – we just want you to have a really good time! So for one week only we are running heaps of brilliant one-off events that should make you smile and keep you out of mischief!

We have trips going to Old Trafford, home of Manchester United FC and to one of our favourite Give it a Go destinations – Chester Zoo! There is also the chance to join the Geographical Society and visit Alton Towers at a knock down price!

There are also plenty of free events happening all week too – a film night, dance class, an International chat café, a chance to support your AU teams and of course the grand final of Bangor’s Got Talent!

Friday 16 April

The Ghost Train performed by Rostra

Rostra, one of Bangor Students Union performing arts societies will be performing The Ghost Train and would like to invite you along for the ride. The plot revolves around a party of passengers who find themselves stranded in the waiting room of an isolated station.
Sounds spooky to me! All you have to do to see this play is go along on the night and pay on the door.
Time: 7.30pm

Saturday 17 April

Local MP Candidate Question Time

With the announcement that the General Election will be held on 6 May, we thought it would be good for students to have a chance to grill the people who want to represent you in Parliament. What do they have to do to win your vote? Simply come along on the day and hear what they have to say.

Bangor FC v Caersws

As the season comes to a close, get on down to Farrar Road and cheer on Bangor FC as they take on rivals Caersws. It’s a 2.30pm Kick Off and tickets are available at the ground for £5 for students. If you have a Love Bangor card though, you get 2 tickets for the price of 1! So grab a friend, a scarf and a pie and you’re ready to watch the game!

Trip to Old Trafford Football Ground

The trip to Old Trafford has been CANCELLED.

STAG Work Party

Get some exercise outdoors whilst helping with conservation at Treborth Botanic Garden. Jobs will include further work in the woodland and on the pond, plant propagation for our plant sale, and spring tidying in preparation for Botanical Beats. All welcome – no previous experience necessary, although outdoor shoes/clothing desirable (we do have a few spare pairs of wellies). Home-cooked lunch provided. Superteams

Want to prove that your team is the best? Then rise to the challenge and become a Superteam!
Enter on the day with your team of 5 and battle it out in Maes Glas to become Bangor’s Superteam of 2010!
A series of individual and team challenges to test fitness, strength and coordination.
2 members of your team are required to compete in each of the five individual events in which every member of your team must compete at least twice.

Break Dance Class

Meet in the Basement of the SU just before 6pm and get ready for a whirlwind introduction to break dancing. This is one of the dance club’s fastest growing classes and it’s easy to see why!

The Big Quiz

This is your last chance to experience a ‘Spenny G’ special – a quiz created by Bangor SU’s very own Quiz Master. Do you dare take him on? Each team can have a maximum of 5 people in it and the prize is £50 worth of HMV vouchers (5 x £10).

International Chat Café

Run in conjunction with the People and Planet society, we will be showing the recent blockbuster 2012.
Starring John Cusack and showing the effect global warming can have on the environment, this is well worth a watch.

Wednesday 21 April

Support your teams

As the season draws to an end some of our clubs are battling for play off places and trophies. One of these is in the Men’s Badminton, where Bangor will be taking on Leeds Met for the chance to be promoted to the First Division. This is a big deal and they would love you to be there supporting them – lets show a little Bangor spirit!

These are the people who pass Students Union policy and if you want to hear their thoughts before you vote for them, then come along to hear what they have to say.

Bangor’s Got Talent Final!

The heats have been held, it’s now time for the Bangor’s Got Talent 2010 Final! From dance acts and a drummer, to individual musicians and singers, this will be an event not to miss. On the night, there will be £100 up for grabs for the act receiving the most votes from the audience, so make sure you turn up to support your favourite! Amser/Time will play host to the night on which entry is only £1 or free with Love Bangor!

FreeCycle hosted by Bangor Women’s Society

Are you broke, but want a new outfit? Have clothes you never wear? Want to help the planet? Then this is the event for you!
Bring in up to 30 items of clothing you no longer wear (in ready-to-wear condition, please) to swap them for tokens so you can ‘shop’ the event! Better still; bring along a friend with their own gear – the more the merrier! Reduce, reuse, and recycle in style.

Welsh Learner Lunch

If you have ever wanted to learn to speak Welsh in a fun and laid back environment, then this is the thing for you! Cymdeithas Llywelyn, the Welsh Learners Society, will be holding an informal taster session from 12.30pm in the Basement and everyone is welcome to attend. Have a cup of tea and a chat and get to know the Welsh language!

Chester Zoo Trip

For all those who haven’t been there, this is an excellent opportunity to discover the UK’s Number 1 zoo, with over 7,000 animals and 400 different species, including some of the most endangered species on the planet. There are only limited places available so to get your ticket just come to Students Union and see Ceri on the Third Floor of the SU Building as soon as possible. The Geography Society is going to Alton Towers and is extending the offer to you. If you want a day of thrills, spills and scares then this is the trip for you – and at a bargain price!

Crazy Sports Day

Fancy getting a bit crazy? Meet at the Astroturf round the back of Fridd site just before 2pm for the craziest event of the year.
You and your team of at least 5 will do welly-wanging, hockey ball dribbling, bean bag balancing, leap frog and loads of other events to take you back to your school days.
Join us for an afternoon of fun before exams, and don’t worry if you can’t get a full team together, just turn up and we’ll put you in a team.

Straight after the crazy sports day is the final of the first intramural 5-a-side tournament in Bangor.
